stunning double cassette set that bundles a bunch of live jams from various locations – london’s cafe oto, salford’s islington mill, manchester’s fuel, leeds’ brudenell social club, cambridge’s portland arms – from the world-beating duo of michael flower (guitar) and neil campbell (guitar/casio). flower and campbell were of course compatriots in one of the uk’s greatest underground drone/rock groups vibracathedral orchestra and this tape presents a more dazzling psych rock extension of that particular group’s navigation of constantly peaking eternal sound but it’s cut with an amazing ostrich guitar/explosive drone style that comes straight out of the velvet underground. across four sides of tape they mutate the basic blueprint to the point that it sounds like greatest vu bootleg jam of your life, with flower’s guitar tearing through sheet metal melodies and epic raga levitations while campbell flits between flashing keyboard melodies that sound like cluster on infinite repeat and some almost skullflower-like string violence. they’re joined by john godbert aka herb diamante – also of vibracathedral orchestra – on drums for two tracks and they are particularly phenomenal, with godbert thundering like faust through storms of technicolour electricity. the uk has long had a particularly amazing and unique take on drone rock and vibracathedral remain pretty much kings of the genre and this is another ass-flattening reminder of their powers from a bunch of key players w/hypnotic command of the zone. can’t get enough of this one. – david keenan, volcanic tongue… really hot one here. looks great, sounds great, and only 50 copies!
